An Accessory Dwelling Unit or "ADU" is a small house or apartment that can be attached, detached, or inside of a single family home. It is an independent living space and includes its own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living area. ADU's also have their own private entrance. You may know them by names such as a "Carriage House" or a "Granny Flat".
- It can provide rental income to help with mortgage payments or general expenses.
- It can provide a home for a loved one in need of care with a much lower cost than assisted living while allowing them to remain near family.
- It can provide a space for a caregiver to reside.
- It can provide a space for adult children to reside while until they get their own home.
