An Accessory Dwelling Unit or "ADU" is a small house or apartment that can be attached, detached, or inside of a single family home. It is an independent living space and includes its own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living area. You may know them by names such as a "Carriage House" or a "Granny Flat".

  • It can provide rental income to help with mortgage payments or general expenses.
  • It can provide a home for a loved one in need of care with a much lower cost than assisted living while allowing them to remain near family.
  • It can provide a space for a caregiver to reside.
  • It can provide a space for adult children to reside while until they get their own home.

Now that we've talked about what they are, how can you use one?

Why now and not later?

We offer four different types of ADU's in our Creekside Community!

While it is certainly possible to add an ADU onto your new home at a later date, here are a few reasons its better to do it at the same time.

One of the best features of an ADU is it's flexibility.

Over time, it can be used in many ways as your needs or circumstances change.

Adding an ADU to your home after it is complete could cost upwards of $200,000. Building one at the same time starts at just $54,200.

The process of getting permits and approval to add an ADU can be a hassle. We take care of all of that!

The extra time needed to manage the construction of an ADU can be scarce. Building one at the same time adds no additional time.

Bigelow Homes is currently the only new home builder in Kyle and the Austin area offering optional ADU's!
